Zoo Day

Image
We just spent a day at the Ft Wayne Zoo with dad, mom, Michelle, and her friend Timna. Dad's work had a family zoo day so he had discount tickets. Owen had a great time seeing all the animals. He rode the merry-go-round - he was unsure at first but by the end of the ride was asking for more. He also rode the canoes and the train (of course the train was his favorite : ) He enjoyed watching the sea lions swim and then petting the goats at the end. Hannah did fairly well, considering. It started out as a rainy day but ended up sunny. We got home and both kids crashed for a nap - the only reason I am able to post on the same day : )

The Stats

Image
So Hannah had her doctor appointment yesterday and she now weighs in at 11 lbs 12 oz and is 21 inches long. She's in the 85 percentile for weight and 35 for height - short and stout : ) So I guess despite the nursing and puking issues, she has managed to put on quite a bit of weight. We were quite relieved to hear that. The doctor did say that from the sound of her symptoms, that she does have a mild form of GERD/acid reflux. He offered to put her on the infant form of Prilosec but advised that we wait it out versus putting her on meds. She has shown a bit of improvement in the last week and a half so we will wait a bit longer and see how things progress. In regards to the pictures, this was taken of Owen right after he "helped" us pick cherries. He would squeeze the juice out and then play in the dirt and then wipe his eye -and you can see the result. And the one of Hannah - well, this is one place she is always happy - Hannah enjoys her baths -until she has to be taken

2 months old!

Well, the second month was much more difficult than the first. Hannah has been very fussy and will have periods of crying that we just can't console. This week has been a little better, she will have some times where I can lay her down and she doesn't immediately start crying. For awhile there, I had to carry her around in the snugli everywhere we went. Currently she is sleeping for about 6 hours at night and will go about every 3 hours during the day. Nursing is also going a little better this week. For the last month Hannah would nurse for about 5 minutes and then get really upset and then not eat anymore (I think I talked about this in a previous post). At any rate, that is going a little bit better. We go into the doctor next week on the 24th for her 2 month appt. Owen is starting a loud whiny phase. I think it has to do with not getting as much attention anymore. He is wanting to do everything in his timetable, not ours. We are working on "listening and obeying"

Wedding Weekend

Image
This past weekend we were in Bowling Green, Ohio, for Paul's brother Sam's wedding. It was perfect June weather on Saturday - low 80's with little to no humidity. Hannah did wonderful the whole weekend. She slept 6 hours straight both Friday and Saturday night. And she did great being passed from arm to arm at the reception. Owen was pretty ornery. He only slept for about 45 minutes before the wedding and it showed. As you can see in the pictures, he was not willing to smile for the camera. But all in all everything went very well. For those who don't know who the people are in the pictures: Pic 1 Paul with his two brothers Sam and Ben, Pic 2 Paul and his brothers with their dad, Pic 3 and 4 is our little clan and Pic 5 is Sam and his wife Kat.

Hanging in there

This is the phrase I would use to describe my life right now. We are still trying to work out the kinks with Hannah. Owen is still doing well, being his busy self. But Hannah, well, we aren't sure what is going on. For a little over a week now, she is only nursing for 5-8 mins at a time and then gets real upset and won't eat anymore. We repeat this process about every hour, hour and a half. And oh, did I mention that she throws up after every 'meal?' Sometimes as soon as we are finished. She continues this routine right through the night, so you can imagine my fatigue level at this point. We do have 'good' days. Those are the ones where she doesn't cry 'as much.' Next week is her 2 month checkup and I am hoping to have some answers then. We'll see. Until then, we're hanging in there...
